(Prensa Latina) Members of the Chilean Communist Party who will participate in the drafting of the new constitution demanded the release of political prisoners of the 2019 popular uprising, in a statement published today.
They also urged the Government to urgently put the legislative processing of the projects of general pardon and reparation to the victims of human rights violations due to police repression during the protests of the so-called social outburst.
They also asked for the urgent preparation of ‘a national registry that would give details of the reality of the political prisoners of the social uprising, deprived of liberty and/or with proceedings in progress; and of all the victims of state repression’.
The statement, published by newspaper El Siglo, adds that the Prosecutor General’s Office must give answers to the opacity with which the judicial processes of the people arrested in the framework of the social revolt have been treated.
They also ask for clarification of the reason for ‘the differences in the precautionary measures that have been used to prosecute State agents identified in cases of human rights violations’.
In the document they also reject that the director of the National Institute of Human Rights, Sergio Micco, continues to head this institution, because-they point out-his decisions by him contravene the principles of the organization in the defense and promotion of human rights .
