(Prensa Latina) Lawmakers from Uruguay’s Broad Front (Frente Amplio-FA) on Thursday promoted, with the Senate’s approval, some measures to support people with diabetes, among the most worrying comorbidities in Covid-19 cases.
FA legislator Mario Bergara raised the need to create a health registry for diabetic patients, include Flash Glucose Monitoring to the National Integrated Health System and expand the regulation of the National Resource Fund to insulin treatment.
The Senate unanimously approved the transfer to the Executive Power of a document regarding a dynamic entry of the number of people suffering from diabetes, gender, age and geographical distribution that provides information on treatments and controls.
Bergara presented the proposal as a result of the difficulties the pandemic evidenced in diabetic patients because this disease is a risk factor to develop complications in Covid-19 contagions.
Previous partial studies by a specialized medical association indicated that 8.2 percent of the population suffers from diabetes and 20 percent do not know they have this disease
