(Prensa Latina) Humpback whale watching is one of the main shows available for locals and visitors to the coastal province of Manabí, in Ecuador.
The event can be seen in the Puerto López municipality, under strict biosecurity measures that allow this tourist activity to be carried out without the risk of contagion with Covid-19 and comply with the observation protocols at sea.
To maintain control during the third whale watching festival, the authorities allowed the operations of 35 agencies authorized to offer the service, which also includes visits to the La Plata Island and diving practices.
They have also offered virtual trainings to all the personnel who will attend to tourists, both in the boats, whose capacity is 75 percent of their total capacity, as well as in the places of lodging and places where food and beverages are sold.
The sighting program has been in force for several years and includes boat approaches at a distance of 400 meters for whales and up to 200 meters for dolphins.
The visit of the whales to the coasts of Ecuador occurs from June to September, when they arrive in these warm waters to mate and give birth after a journey of thousands of kilometers.
For many, the majesty of their jumps and songs is a unique spectacle, widely expected annually.
Also, the locals prepare every detail for this event, which allows to boost the local economic reactivation.
