(Prensa Latina) The national union strike against hunger and inequality, for life, salary and work, has been standing out in the week that concludes today with the defense of salaries against business cuts.
The Pit-Cnt trade union assessed as broad and forceful the participation of all the unions which complied with the call and as successful the realization of the strike without interrupting the vaccination against Covid-19 and the transportation to the centers of application.
At the end of the demonstration in caravans of converging vehicles in the Plaza de Independencia, union leaders delivered a list of demands to the Presidential Office, in which they emphasized a basic monthly income for one year for the population disadvantaged by the economic Covid-19 impact.
They also asked for more state investment in public works to generate jobs, public procurement policies, care network, access to land, financial support to micro and small enterprises, guaranteed access to housing, a new Youth Employment Law and not to privatize state entities.
At the end of the week, the government summoned the Superior Tripartite Council on salaries to set the annual process, in which a confrontation is foreseen between employer interests and union claims for unfreezing the cap on emoluments accepted in 2020 in response to the health emergency.
Pit-Cnt’s president, Fernando Pereira, advanced that he will go to that meeting to make fulfil the commitment to recover the real salary in January 2022, which was a condition established for its freezing in 2021.
