The Minister of Education, María Brown, presented the National Government’s educational development plan to President Guillermo Lasso. This plan proposes the progressive return to classes in a face-to-face, blended, safe and voluntary way. Next Monday, June 7, 2021, 1,301 educational units, which have their return plans approved, will open their classrooms.
Minister Brown, after congratulating teachers and students, pointed out that with the signing of the executive decree of this educational development plan, it is intended to include, revalue and protect students.
Through this plan autonomy, freedom and flexibility for interculturality will be promoted and that they will work so that this process of returning to the classrooms is face-to-face, blended, safe and voluntary.
Minister Brown referred to the Return to School Plan, which has five axes:
Axis 1, called Encontrémonos, focuses on the national brigades of teachers, who will be in contact with the students and will carry out a diagnosis of 100% of the student population. Because the students have not had contact with their teachers or their peers, “we want to know how our childhood and youth are, both in their physical and emotional well-being and in their educational development,” she pointed out.
The Minister of Education promises that there will be at least one meeting point in each parish, which will be a link between the school, the family and the community. In addition, that they will work in coordination with the Ministry of Health so that it is carried out in person, safely and voluntarily.
This Wednesday, June 2, 2021, they will hold a meeting with the national COE, in order that the schools that have an approved progressive return plan for face-to-face classes and can return to the classrooms.
She pointed out that there are 15,135 return plans, of which 5,089 request a blended modality according to their capacity. She even said that 1,301 educational centers are already approved and will start classes next Monday, June 7.
Brown proposed that graduation ceremonies should take place in person in open spaces, with adequate capacity and social distancing, assuming biosecurity measures.
In Axis 2, all who seek to strengthen rural and community schools as the engine of community development. She pointed out that 1,500 schools were closed in rural areas and 141 were reopened by 2021.
The Government promises to open 900 more educational institutions. Also, in the first 100 days, the community multigrade pedagogical model will be published in order for education to be contextualized, flexible and relevant to the life projects of students in their community, said María Brown.
Axis 3, Free and flexible, is focused on autonomy and freedom for schools, so that the 28 publishers that produce texts are more autonomous and jointly responsible for the content and quality of the more than 174 texts that are produced.
They will promote the free choice of educational resources for private and fiscal institutions. There will even be educational offers in flexible and innovative modalities that meet the needs of the population that are blended and remotely for families that require it, the Minister said in her presentation.
She said that Axis 4 is strong, that it is focused on the well-being of teachers and the flexibility of education. She committed to developing a new ladder with teachers for teachers, focused on dignifying her profession. Which will be worked with modern and diverse modalities. With the development of contextualized curricula in each territory to celebrate the ethnic and cultural diversity of Ecuador, said the official.
Axis 5 refers to educational excellence, on educational quality in the pedagogical and technological field. In the first 60 days they will deliver the first 750 tablets with the support of the private sector, she clarified.
In the first 100 days they will publish the new digital educational agenda, where media and information literacy and digital citizenship of teachers and students will be prioritized.
