Special regulations for mega-election approved in Venezuela

(Prensa Latina) The National Electoral Council (CNE) in Venezuela announced the approval of special regulations of the electoral system for the so-called mega-elections, slated for November 21.

That day Venezuelans will elect the country’s 23 governors and 335 mayors, as well as the members of regional and municipal legislative bodies.

CNE President Pedro Calzadilla informed that 60 percent of the posts for regional legislative bodies and municipal councils will be at stake through proportional representation, according to the votes received by each party and the rest of the nominal list.

The highest representative of the electoral power indicated that this decision complies with the provisions of the June 5, 2020 sentence, issued by the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.

Likewise, the CNE approved holding a special campaign to register and update data in the voter registration from June 1 to July 15.

At present, a total of 21,070,528 Venezuelans are registered to vote.

The dialogue process promoted since 2019 by the Venezuela Government and several opposition forces led to the renewal of the CNE leadership by the Venezuelan Parliament.
