More than 1 million people will be inoculated in Ecuador, assures president Moreno

Given the failure of the Government to immunize 2 million people until next May 24, the day of change of mandate, the president, Lenín Moreno, assured that, until this date, 1 million 800 thousand citizens will be inoculated against the coronavirus.

During the vaccination day on Monday, May 17, in Guayaquil, the president justified that this goal will not be met due to the “lack of seriousness” of pharmaceutical companies such as the Covax and AstraZeneca initiative.

Regarding the approval of the National Agency for Health Regulation, Control and Surveillance (ARCSA), to import the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, the head of state clarified that this is a decision of the incoming government of Guillermo Lasso.

Regarding vaccination in Galapagos, a province in which it was announced that 100% of the population would be vaccinated last week, the Minister of Health, Camilo Salinas, explained that in this region 99.7% people have already received at least one doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. In addition, he indicated that they will guarantee the second dose until June, to achieve full immunization in this province.

Finally, Moreno reported that, so far, 7,500 appointments have been delivered to medical personnel, who worked during the health emergency derived from the coronavirus.

However, despite the delivery of these appointments, there are still medical personnel among nurses, assistants and other health professionals, in hospitals such as Pablo Arturo Suárez, in Quito, or the Monte Sinaí Hospital, in Guayaquil, who claim for these titles , established in the Humanitarian Law.
