Egypt and Russia advocate diplomatic solution to crisis in Palestine

(Prens Latina) The foreign ministers of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, and Russia, Sergey Lavrov, on Thursday agreed on the need for a ceasefire in the Palestinian territories, leaving room for political efforts.

Israel must stop the attacks on the Gaza Strip and the bloodshed it began in East Jerusalem with the events at the Al-Aqsa mosque. Facts show that political action is indispensable and irreplaceable, the foreign ministers stressed.

‘It is important that, once the military confrontation is over, the international community seriously mobilizes to advance towards the progress of a just and real peace in the conflict,’ says an official statement.

According to the communiqué issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Shoukry and Lavrov agreed to intensify communication with the parties involved to solve the crisis in the Middle East, in the framework of preparations for the third meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the subject, which will take place on Friday.

The head of Egyptian diplomacy spoke on Thursday with his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi, about the need to end Tel Aviv’s aggressions against the Palestinian territories and the importance of resorting to diplomatic means as soon as possible.
