Colombia: Senator Cepeda denounces Uribe for inciting violence

(Prensa Latina) Senator Iván Cepeda, who serves as a member of the Alternative Democratic Pole, denounced former President and Founder of the ruling Colombian Democratic Center Party Álvaro Uribe for alleged incitement to violence in Colombia.

Left-winger Cepeda tweeted that he formalized the complaint for alleged crimes of harassment and incitement to commit a crime.

Uribe recently issued a message on Twitter, where the platform decided to withdraw for violating one of its rules, considering that said tweet incited to violence.

Uribe´s controversial tweet said: ‘Let´s support the right of soldiers and police officers to use their weapons to defend their integrity, people and property from criminal actions.’

Twitter´s security staff explained that ‘after a review of the Tweet on @AlvaroUribeVel account and taking into account the context of the current situation in Colombia, we have decided to eliminate the message for violating Twitter´s rules.’

According to Cepeda, Uribe’s tweet ‘is too serious, not only because of its content but also because of the context in which it occurs,’ referring to massive national strike against government’s tax reform that began on April 28 and that still continues for another set of claims.
