Ecuador registers 3,196 new infections and 98 deaths in the last 24 hours

This Tuesday, May 4, 2021, the country has a total of 391,242 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 18,863 deaths due to the pandemic.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, 13,688 people died with a positive diagnosis and 5,175 with suspicion of carrying the respiratory virus.

Hospital occupancy is kept to the limit and there are 13 consecutive days with more than 2,000 daily hospitalizations. This Tuesday, 2,050 patients are hospitalized: 1,436 are stable and 614 with a reserved prognosis. While 64 more people were discharged from hospital.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 329,582 patients have recovered from the virus, representing 85.10% of the total infected. There is an average of almost 10,000 people who overcome the disease each week.

Pichincha registers 552 new infections and 16 more deaths in the last 24 hours. The province reaches 137,319 diagnosed with the virus and 3,144 deaths. Quito adds 513 more infected and amounts to 126,889 cases in the Ecuadorian capital.

The Minister of Health, Camilo Salinas, announced that the P1 variant, from Brazil, is already contagious in a community way in Ecuador, due to the transmissibility of this virus and the registration of cases in more than five provinces.
