On the night of this Tuesday, April 20, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) issued a statement to announce that the rate for the RT-PCR test (nasopharyngeal swab) will have a maximum cost of USD 45.08 throughout the country. As indicated by the State Portfolio, this measure was adopted after a technical analysis undertaken by the Subcommission on the Fee Schedule of Benefits for the National Health System.
As indicated by the MSP, the ministerial agreement to formalize price regulation in accordance with this rate has already been issued.
This measure seeks to standardize the costs of this test and guarantee its accessibility to the greatest number of citizens for the respective diagnosis of the coronavirus; since, there were several complaints of excessive charges.
In March 2020, the MSP set maximum prices for these diagnostic tests. If a person went with an order issued by a public medical center, they had to charge him USD 80, in private laboratories. But if the order was from a private establishment it would go up to USD 120.
