Ecuador’s Ministry of Health will review prices of private hospitals that treat Covid-19 to avoid excessive charges

After multiple complaints of excessive charges in private hospitals that treat Covid-19, the Minister of Health, Camilo Salinas, assured that the entity will initiate a control process in the country, to avoid repetition of these practices. In this context, an attempt will be made to regulate prices in a balanced way.

Salinas said that before being Minister, his father was admitted to a private hospital, which asked for a guarantee of USD 10,000 to receive it, with this, he explained that he knows perfectly the practice of private health centers and reiterated the need to regulate these costs.

“I have arranged for the different institutions to investigate not only the PCR tests, but also to carry out medical controls, health registration and controls to the values that are given in the private service.”

The Minister stressed that excessive charges will not be allowed for treating patients with Covid, but they will regulate these values in a “balanced way”, trying to ensure that no one is harmed.

“We are not going to allow excessive charges, but we will do this in a balanced way because we do not want to harm anyone, but we all have to pitch in at this time of crisis that Ecuador is experiencing.”

On the other hand, the official stressed that people with catastrophic diseases are already being vaccinated throughout the country, but that, in some cases, very strict protocols must be met.
