The numbers of hospitalized in Ecuador continue to increase. This Tuesday, April 20, 2021, it exceeded, for the first time, the 2,000 hospitalized patients, between serious and stable, due to complications derived from COVID-19 at the national level.
In total, 2,039 were hospitalized: 1,395 stable and 644 with a reserved prognosis. It is the first day with more than two thousand cases reported in a single day. Since the end of March, the average was 1,600, then it rose to 1,700 at the beginning of April and in the last days it exceeded 1,900.
The authorities of the Ministry of Health or the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) have not yet taken any measures to give a respite to the collapsed health system. Health professional unions are calling for a total confinement to reduce infections and, with them, hospital occupation.
There are 11 provinces that are within epidemiological surveillance due to the accelerated increase in those infected with COVID-19. This Mars, nationwide, there are 591 new infections and 41 more deaths in the last 24 hours, adding a total of 361,154 confirmed cases and 17,744 deaths due to the pandemic.
The government report indicates that there are 309,541 recovered patients, representing 85.85% of the total infected.
