Ecuador reports new peak of hospitalized

This Friday, April 16, 2021, Ecuador registers 355,964 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 17,528 deaths due to the pandemic.

Of the total deaths, 12,574 people died with a positive diagnosis and 4,954 with suspicion of carrying the respiratory virus.

Hospital occupation reaches a new peak: 1,879 hospitalized nationwide. 1,248 are stable and 631 with a reserved prognosis. They are seven consecutive days with more than 1,700 hospitalized and this Friday it exceeds 1,800 patients for the first time. The authorities reported that there are 395 people waiting for a bed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nationwide.

While the number of recovered patients is 298,605, representing 86.10% of the total infected.

Medical unions ask for government action, once it was confirmed that two variants of COVID-19 are already circulating in the country: the British one, since January this year, and the Brazilian one, for a week.
