The Pichincha College of Physicians asked the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) to recommend to President Lenín Moreno a targeted confinement for a period of no less than 10 days
The main reason is due to the sustained increase in coronavirus cases in the province and in the country, as well as the saturation of the Intensive Care Units (ICU) and the lack of beds for hospitalization.
In a letter addressed to the president of the national COE, Juan Zapata, the president of the College of Physicians of Pichincha, Víctor Álvarez, explained that the confinement will help the health system to recover and thus control the situation.
In turn, the National Association of Private Clinics and Hospitals of Ecuador joined the request of the national COE that there be measures of exception and restriction of rights due to the advance of the coronavirus.
According to the Ministry of Health of the Municipality of Quito, 119 people are on the waiting list for a bed in the ICU.
