In Latacunga, a Covid-19 patient, suspected of having contracted the Brazilian variant, died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the General Hospital of that city.
The information that was disseminated through social networks highlighted that the deceased person was 31 years old and developed an atypical clinical picture, for which an epidemiological investigation file would have been opened.
Given these data, the hospital that belongs to the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) issued a statement explaining that the patient remained in that health home with an aggressive picture of this disease.
It is detailed that, “in view of the characteristics of his pathology, all the necessary protocols were applied in a timely manner and the respective tests were sent to the National Institute for Public Health Research to determine the variant carried by the patient.”
At the moment, the health house awaits the results to determine if it is a different variant than the one that has already been treated in the country.
The entity stressed that it maintains active epidemiological surveillance teams, as well as contact with the health authority that supports the study of genomic surveillance to determine new variants of the coronavirus.
The health house urged the population to remain calm and continue to take care of themselves with the biosecurity measures implemented.
