The head of European Union diplomacy, Josep Borrell, congratulated the elected president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, on Wednesday, April 14.
In his post, Borrell said that he hopes to further strengthen relations with the future government of Ecuador.
“We will continue to fight together against the challenges resulting from the pandemic,” he said.
On Monday, in an official note, Borrell’s office congratulated Ecuadorians for carrying out a “peaceful electoral” process that ended with Lasso’s victory in the second round.
The statement emphasized that there was a high level of participation, which is a reflection of the Ecuadorians’ commitment to democracy.
In this way, on behalf of the European Union, Borrell recognized the triumph of Lasso, who obtained 52.50% of support from the electorate.
