Minister of Culture eliminated free access to museums and repositories

Julio Bueno, Minister of Culture and Heritage, approved the elimination of free access to museums and repositories that are in charge of this ministry.

The document repeals the agreement on December 7, 2010, which established the free admission of national and foreign visitors to the Museums and Cultural Centers administered by the Ministry of Culture.

Without this measure, it orders the administrative departments and Financial Management to prepare a joint technical report, in which the feasibility of establishing rates for the entry of citizens to the repositories it manages is determined.

“No to the privatization of public cultural spaces”; “The heritage and the profession of the historian at serious risk”, are some of the claims made by managers and professionals of culture.

In an interview for El Comercio, Bueno said that the rate would not be for national visitors or researchers, but for foreign tourists. “They want to pay a ticket when they get to the museums,” he added.

Museums and cultural centers will carry out technical reports to determine the cost of tickets, as well as to set the price for access to the heritage repository.
