Guayas doctors request total confinement

The Guayas Medical Association asked the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) for total confinement from April 14 to May 1 to avoid new spikes due to infections and deaths from the coronavirus.

They also ask for the suspension of May holidays and the closure of beaches, they also require meticulous controls on flights from the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa, as well as that the prohibition of meetings and face-to-face classes be maintained.

Wilson Tenorio, president of the College of Physicians, and Francisco Plaza, representative of the union, considered the adoption of these measures urgently, especially due to the elections.

They clarified that this will counteract the ravages of the circulation of the United Kingdom and New York variants that have already been detected in the country.

Plaza pointed out that the isolation should take into consideration the exceptions of the case, but the objective is to lower the epidemiological curve.

He said that despite the measures that the National Electoral Council adopts for the elections, there will be more infections, for that reason they recommend confinement to stop the epidemiological burden and the growth of the speed of the pandemic.

He advised maintaining social distancing and trying to avoid any physical contact, even with objects.

He thought it appropriate to speed up the immunization process and said that the ideal would be to vaccinate 150,000 people per day to reach 75% of the population by the middle of the year.

Tenorio added that the electoral authorities must sanitize the electoral precincts, including the material available at each site and carry out temperature controls at the entrances and social distancing.
