(Prensa Latina) Authorities from the municipality of Guajara-Mirim, Brazil, in the state of Rondonia, asked their peers in Guayaramerin, Bolivia, to help their citizens access Covid-19 detection tests, as per reports of an official source.
‘We sent a note to the (Bolivian) Ministry of Health informing the Brazil’s request, that their citizens may submit to the nasal antigen test as soon as they cross the border due to the lack of support from their Government and lack of supplies,’ explained the president of the Municipal Council from Guayaramerin, Janneth Cuellar.
This situation was made known during a bilateral meeting last week to coordinate joint tasks against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Cuellar said in statements to Bolivia TV.
‘At the meeting, the Bolivian representatives stated that in the face of the threat of the entry of new strains of the disease, Brazilian citizens must present a negative test for Covid-19 to pass to and from Bolivia,’ she said.
However, this was rejected by Brazil due to the cost of the tests and the lack of support from the current administration of President Jair Bolsonaro, Cuellar remarked this morning on television.
‘We thank President Luis Arce for the effort he is making to give vaccines free of charge to all Bolivians,’ she stressed.
Bolivia announced on April 1st the closure of the border with Brazil for seven days due to the epidemiological situation, with the head of state extending the application of biosafety measures and actions aimed at reducing Covid-19 infections since the end of March up and until the 30th of this month.
