Ecuador registers 42.600 cases of coronavirus and exceeded 1.600 hospitalized daily in March

The country reports 42.600 positive cases in March, this is the highest number in the last six months.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, 1.430 new infections and 67 more deaths are reported in the last 24 hours. The country registers 328.755 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 16.847 deaths due to the pandemic.

One year after the start of the health emergency in the country, March has become the month with the most infections in the last six months. In February there were 35.327 cases of coronavirus, in January there were 38.316, December 19.827, in November 24.493 and in October 31.145, while March had 42.600.

Deaths from COVID-19 also increased, among confirmed and suspected cases, the country registered 1.036 deaths in March.

The Ministry of Health reports 1.687 hospitalized patients: 1.113 stable hospitalized and 574 with a reserved prognosis. It is the fourth consecutive day with more than 1.600 patients. Hospitals are on the edge. Patients are on the floor or on mats while a bed is vacated. This waiting list exceeds 200 people in the Ecuadorian capital.

There are alerts in several provinces due to the increase in the positivity of infections. For example, Pichincha went from 18% positivity to 27%, Napo went from 22% to 38%, Manabí went from 44% to 53%, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas from 47% to 51%, among the most affected.
