The ash fall from the Sangay volcano in recent days in the center of the country affected more than 28.000 families and also 40.000 hectares of crops were compromised, according to the latest reports from the authorities.

Chimborazo is the province most affected by the ash fall that was coupled with the heavy rains that have been registered in recent days, which overflowed several rivers in the main towns in the area.

On the other hand, the ash fall also generated the burning of pastures in crops, for which, more than 16.000 head of cattle have been left without food. Benjamin Bernard, a researcher at the Geophysical Institute warned that the Sangay is still active

The ash rain was so intense that last Thursday, March 11, 2021, some cities of Chimborazo were still dark in the morning. Since 2019, the Sangay has recorded 5 large explosions.
