(Prensa Latina) Uruguayan scientists, politicians and trade unionists on Wednesday considered insufficient the measures announced by President Luis Lacalle Pou to reduce mobility due to the Covid-19 pandemic in its current dimension.
The National Emergency System on Wednesday confirmed 1,777 new cases, 16 deaths and more than 14,000 active patients, 202 of whom are in intensive care units. According to infectious disease specialist and professor Julio Medina, ‘restricting nightlife’ was missing among the government’s measures, and mentioned bars, restaurants, cafes, social clubs, casinos and bowling alleys, among other establishments.
He stressed that this is a risk factor ‘facing a formidable enemy that has taken us much advantage,’ and pointed out that on what was announced, ‘we will see if those measures are sufficient in short or mid term.’
After the Covid-19 tax for public officials were implemented, ‘tax exemptions for large capital, discretionary appointments of management positions in the State and financial assistance to those who do not need it’ continue, the union denounced.
