(Prensa Latina) The arrest of former de facto authorities, criticism over interference by the Organization of American States (OAS) and marches for justice for the victims of massacres, marked the week that ends today in Bolivia.
Former de facto president Jeanine Añez; former ministers Rodrigo Guzman (Energy) and Alvaro Coimbra (Justice) and former military chiefs are in preventive custody for crimes of sedition, conspiracy, terrorism, among others, during the coup d’état against Evo Morales in November 2019.
Likewise, arrest warrants were issued on Friday against businessman Fernando Camacho, one of the main instigators of the coup attempt, and the former head of the Presidency Yerko Nuñez.
The Bolivian right wing and Luis Almagro, OAS Secretary General, questioned these arrests and described as ‘political persecution and harassment’ the judicial processes that seek to clarify the massacres of Sacaba (Cochabamba) and Senkata (La Paz), with a toll of 33 dead and hundreds of wounded in 2019.
The Bolivian Foreign Ministry, through a communiqué, responded that Almagro has neither ethics nor moral to interfere in internal affairs.
Likewise, the Unity Pact, which gathers several social organizations, announced a march for Monday, March 22, in the nine departments of the country in support of the Government of Luis Arce, and its process of change.
Due to the reactions by Civic Committees, right wing political parties, hierarchs of the Catholic Church and members of the media for the arrest of former authorities, the alliance analyzed the national situation and issued a communiqué.
It condemns marches of protest in rejection of the investigation the Public Prosecutor’s Office has called the Coup d’Etat, case and denounces that these actions are a sign of confrontation to destabilize Arce’s administration.
The Unity Pact recalls that the recipe of those who lost the general elections of October 18, 2020 is already known, therefore it will not allow affronts against the current administration elected with 55.10 percent of the votes
