Argentineans launch campaign to honor missing people

(Prensa Latina) A few days before the 45th anniversary of the coup d’etat that dragged Argentina into one of the most cruel dictatorships, several groups are inviting on Thursday to plant 30,000 trees as a tribute to the missing people.

We plant memory, point out a dozen human rights organizations such as the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo and the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo-Founding Line, who called to plant that number of trees to represent all 30,000 detained-disappeared people from the last dictatorship (1976-1983), and for the future.

Banned from carrying out the mass march on Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice for second time in history, those groups hope with the March 24 action to honor the victims of the bloody dictatorship by planting a tree in a pot and placing it on a balcony, window, garden or sidewalk of each house.

After noting that the memory of each detained-disappeared person brings with it the legacy of the struggle for a fairer and solidarity country, groups such as the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights or Sons and Daughters for Identity and Justice call to join the planting of trees and then upload it to social media with the hatchtags #PlantamosMemoria, #45AñosDelGolpeGenocida and #Son30Mil.

Forty-five years after the 1976 coup d’etat, several initiatives are expected in which once again Argentinian citizens will build Memory, Truth and Justice in honor of the victims of the dictatorship.
