The People’s Group, the Progressive International and the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America (Copppal), which participated as international observers of the electoral process of February 7, 2021, sent a letter to the Electoral Contentious Tribunal in order to urge them to proceed with impartiality and independence in the face of attempts at judicial harassment of the candidacies that go to the second round or other actors in the process.
The three international organizations show their concern about the events that occurred in recent days, such as the request of the Comptroller’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office to audit the computer system of the National Electoral Council in full process; added to the TCE statement where a meeting between the candidate Yaku Pérez and Judge Ángel Torres is reported, within the framework of a subjective appeal presented by Pachakutik before that Court.
They emphasize that the Electoral Function and the institutions that compose it must guarantee the exercise of the political rights of citizens expressed in the vote.
