Indigenous Movement of Ecuador will promote the null vote for the elections

The Cotopaxi Peasant Indigenous Movement (MICC) will promote the “ideological null” vote for the second electoral round, in which Andrés Arauz (UNES) and Guillermo Lasso (CREO) compete.

They indicate that this position will be upheld in the Assembly of ECUARUNARI and the Extended Council of CONAIE.

In the statement, the organization rejects the intentions of division of the indigenous movement, “which come from the right, its figures, commercial media and social networks, as well as figures within our structures.”

The MICC decided to set up a process for the administration and application of indigenous justice “for those responsible for the division within the organizations, which, due to personal and ideological interests, slow down the processes of struggle and destroy our political project.”

They also demand that the 27 assembly members of the Pachakutik Plurinational Unity Movement remain firm in the fulfillment of the popular mandate and the political project.

In addition, they reject “electoral fraud in Ecuador” and demand transparency from the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Electoral Court (TCE) in their actions.

“They must guarantee the opening of the polls that present inconsistencies and go to the vote-by-vote recount, responding to those requested by the movement because the people demand confidence in the democratic system,” says the document sent by the MICC.
