Dozens of retired teachers protested against the National Government for a debt of USD 650 million. The Coordinator of Retired Teachers of Ecuador Alfonso Yánez Montero denounced that there is a debt with 11.069 teachers for several years.
The seized ex-media workers also joined this protest. They ask the government to pay their compensation, social security, among others.
Currently, the National Government would need USD 2.250 million approximately to cover the offers to first-line public servants, to those who were left unemployed in the pandemic; as well as debts with the state oil company and other pending items with the Decentralized Autonomous Governments (GAD).
For her part, Cecilia Paredes, representative of the retired teachers, indicated that the Government has not given them a specific answer about the money to be delivered for this year, nor has it formalized a payment schedule.
Starting today, the Association of Municipalities of Ecuador (AME) will begin with an indefinite strike to demand that the Central Government catch up with its obligations.
