Brazilian workers call for aid, Covid-19 vaccine and employment

(Prensa Latina) Trade union centers in Brazil will stage a protest on Thursday to call for the return of the emergency aid (some 107 dollars per month), the fulfillment of the Covid-19 vaccination and the employment protection measure.

According to Rede Brasil Atual, the mobilization will take place amid what is believed to be the worst moment of the pandemic in the country, due to the record death toll of 1.910 by Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

The demonstration will be staged under the impact of news about an increase in unemployment and the shrinking of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Marches in front of factory gates are planned in the state of Sao Paulo.

In addition, union leaders and activists will demonstrate in high concentration areas downtown and bus terminals of Lapa (west) and Santo Amaro (south).

Bank and oil workers have also planned activities in Sao Paulo’s capital.

The Unified Federation of Oil Workers will participate in an event of support at a gas station downtown to denounce the state company Petrobas’s price policy and its negative impact on the population.

Bank workers and landless farmers will organize a symbolic demonstration to draw attention on the need to provide credit to family agriculture, which accounts for 70 percent of Brazilians’ food and is threatened to be dismantled by Banco do Brasil.

At the moment, the emergency aid issue is being debated at Congress.
