Thousands of people protest Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, against President Jovenel Moïse, because he usurps the Presidency of the country, his mandate on February 7, citizens say.

Citizens also protested in Cap-Haitien, Les Cayes, Jacmel, Grand-Goâve and Mirebalais to demand the resignation of Moïse, the cessation of international support, particularly from the United States, for Moïse’s permanence in the presidency, which they consider that violates the Haitian Constitution.

Haitians also protest against the representative of the UN Secretary General and head of the United Nations Integrated Office in the country, Helen Meagher La Lime, who has downplayed the relevance of the demonstrations in Haiti during the last month.

They also denounce the increase in insecurity, kidnappings and murders, especially in Port-au-Prince.

Opponents of Jovenel Moïse maintain that he already finished his presidential term on February 7, while Moïse alleges that he has one year left, since, due to social unrest, he took office a year after the date on which the presidential term began.

However, the Haitian Constitution establishes that the presidential term cannot be extended, even if the inauguration takes place after the established date.
