The protests will continue throughout this week and until the military coup leaders release the detainees and respect the November elections.
This Monday, February 8, 2021, Burma lives another day of protests against the military junta that took power through a coup a week ago. Thousands of people are taking to the streets of Ragún, the largest city in the country.
The protests forced the closure of Ragún, since thousands of people walk the streets and generate a lot of traffic in the historic center of the city. Many citizens had to return to their homes because they could not get to their different jobs.
For their part, the military coup leaders threatened to respond to the protests in a forceful manner.
“Actions must be taken under the law (…) against infractions that disturb, impede and destroy the stability of the State, public security and the rule of law” said one of the television channels controlled by the Military Junta.
The week before, there were large demonstrations across the country, not seen in the nation for a decade. Therefore, the protests will continue during these days with the aim of asking the military to respect the November elections, where the National League for Democracy (LND) swept.
Another slogan that the protesters ask for is the prompt release of the leaders arrested by the coup military, this request was also joined by Pope Francis in the last hours.
