Myanmar street protests injure six gunshot wounds

The clashes here today between anti-coup protesters and police left six injured, according to a partial count of the media on the ground.

Of those injured during the protests, in which the uniformed officers used water cannons, rubber bullets and war ammunition, two were diagnosed as serious, sources said.

The anti-coup marches also include the capital, Naipyidó; and the city of Mandalay, and the number of detainees amounts to at least 20, according to scattered reports released by the press.

Despite the violent reaction of the Police, the demonstrations persist demanding the release of the political leaders detained by the military who took power on February 1, among them the President of the Republic, Win Myint; and the influential State Councilor, Aung San Suu Kyi.

The military junta established after the coup d’état alleged that it dismissed the civil authorities for committing massive fraud in the elections last November, won by the National League for Democracy.

Since then, this Southeast Asian country has been under a state of emergency that will last for a year.
