British variant of Covid-19 spreads rapidly in the United States

The British variant of Covid-19 is spreading rapidly in the United States and threatens to unleash an increase in positive cases that could collapse hospitals, according to the latest research by a group of scientists.

A group of scientists analyzed more than 1 million tests carried out on US citizens in the previous months. Experts concluded that there is a significant trend towards increasing cases with the British variant, which is 70% more contagious.

The study has not yet been reviewed by other scientists, but it is stated that by mid-March the British strain will be the dominant one in the United States. The prevalence of the British variant doubles every week and a half.

This new variant put many countries in the world on alert and forced many to implement new restriction measures, very similar to the first ones that appeared when the coronavirus arrived in different countries.

The United States is the country most affected by the coronavirus in the world, the North American nation has 27 million confirmed cases and more than 460.000 confirmed deaths from the virus.
