The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Diana Atamaint, reported that they hope to finish this process until the weekend.
In an interview with Ecuavisa, the president of the CNE reported that in the national territory she hopes that in the next 48 hours they will be able to finish the scrutiny of all the minutes. In addition, she said that in 48 the electoral kits will arrive from abroad so that, the records with inconsistency, are also counted vote by vote.
“We hope that until the weekend we can solve everything,” she wrote.
Until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, Yaku Pérez, from Pachakutik, surpassed Guillermo Lasso, from CREO, with 19.65%, who obtained 19.60%. Whoever obtains the most votes will compete in the second electoral round against Andrés Arauz, from UNES, who obtains 32.44%.
In a meeting with the CNE and observers from the Organization of American States (OES), the candidates competing for second place announced that they will not allow their militants to cause violence.
“The polls should be opened where numerical inconsistencies are demonstrated in an Electoral Board,” Atamaint assured, mentioning that, if there are doubts on the part of a candidate, they can go to the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) to present the corresponding appeals.
“We are doing everything so that vote by vote, with the vigilance of the delegates of the political organizations, a transparent process is completed,” she said.
