The president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), Jaime Vargas; the president of the Indigenous and Campesino Movement of Cotopaxi (MICC) Leonidas Iza; and the president of the Parliament of the Amazon Nationalities of Ecuador, Rafael Pandam, will appear before the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged crimes of instigation to sabotage, rebellion and terrorism.

The complaints were filed by the former candidate for Pichincha’s Prefecture, Marcelo Hallo, and former Vice President Alberto Dahik.

They claimed that Vargas told the media: “As Amazonians, at this moment we have given the order to close all oil keys (…) because with the people Mr. murderer Lenin (Moreno) does not play.” They also referred to Vargas’ request to the Armed Forces to withdraw their support to the Head of State. Both statements took place during the October protests.
