Cuba condemns US attacks on the Syrian border

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez condemned the recent US aggressions in the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor, near the border with Iraq.

The Minister of Foreign Relations described the action as “a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of that sister nation and of International Law and the UN Charter.”

This is the first military operation of the Joe Biden administration, which justified the attack in response to recent attacks in Iraq against representatives of the United States and its allies.

US forces launched an airstrike on a structure that the Pentagon said belonged to Iranian-backed militias in retaliation for recent attacks by US and coalition personnel in Iraq.

According to reports, about twenty militiamen lost their lives in the Abu Kamal area, in Deir Ezzor province, due to this offensive.

The Syrian government, for its part, condemned the attack and warned that “it will have consequences that will aggravate the situation in the region.”

A statement from the Foreign Ministry notes that “this cowardly aggression against areas in the Deir Ezzor province, near the Syrian-Iraqi border, contradicts international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

“What the US occupation forces are doing is a flagrant attack on the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the Syrian territories and a violation of international law and Security Council resolutions related to this nation,” the statement from the Syrian government states.
