Ecuador reports 146 new infections and two more deaths in the last 24 hours. This Wednesday, February 17, 2021, the country has a total of 268.219 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 15.394 deaths due to the pandemic.
According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, there are 10.671 people who died with a positive diagnosis and 4.723 deaths suspected of carrying the respiratory virus.
Hospital occupation, especially in Guayaquil, increased again. Epidemiologists from the Technical Board of Health of the Municipality reported that the Intensive Care Units (ICU) are at 100%. At the national level, there are 615 stable hospital patients and 489 with a reserved prognosis. In total, there are 1.256 interned in one day. While 109 more people were discharged from hospital.
Doctors warned that the next 10 to 14 days will begin to have reports of those who were infected during the carnival holiday, in which several agglomerations were registered, especially on beaches like Montañita and Salinas.
Since the start of the pandemic, there are 230.377 recovered patients, representing 86.21% of the total infected. In this last week, from February 8 to 14, there were 9.979 more people who overcame the disease.
Pichincha registers 82 new infections and no deaths in the last 24 hours. The province, which has two positive cases of the British variant of COVID-19, reports 94.043 diagnosed with the disease and 2.465 deaths. Quito adds 74 more infected and rises to 86.837 infections in the Ecuadorian capital.
