Andrés Arauz will meet with representatives of the IMF

The winning presidential candidate of the first electoral round, Andrés Arauz (UNES), will hold a new meeting this Wednesday, February 17, 2021 with a representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

During his stay in the United States, the candidate will carry out various activities with Ecuadorian migrants, civil society organizations and will hold meetings with investors from the United States, who are interested in dialoguing with the president to establish future commercial ties.

In addition, he will meet with representatives of the Eurasia Group, a world leader in investment analysis and advice around the world.

According to the agenda, he will meet with Alejandro Werner, director of the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department; Krishnna Srinivasan, deputy director of the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund.

It is the second meeting that the UNES candidate has with authorities of the multilateral organization. In September 2020, Arauz also had a meeting with members of the IMF. In a statement he reported that he made it clear that to strengthen dollarization reserves it is necessary to use electronic money managed through the central banks of the different countries.

Ecuador has a financial agreement with the International Monetary Fund. The body’s Board of Directors approved a loan for USD 6.5 billion. In December of the previous year, the second disbursement of USD 2.000 million arrived, after meeting several conditions, such as the approval of the Anti-Corruption Law.

The rest of the money will enter until December 2022, if Ecuador meets the established goals, among them, the approval of the reform of the Monetary and Financial Code, which would seek, according to various academics and political actors, the privatization of the Central Bank of Ecuador.
