The Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) announced this Wednesday, February 18, 2021, that it returns the credit to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which was irregularly managed by the de facto Government chaired by Jeanine Áñez.
This loan, which was irregularly managed by the Áñez government to the IMF, was initially for USD 346.7 million and due to the increase in interest, it reached 351 million dollars.
“The Central Bank informs the public that in defense of the country’s economic sovereignty and respect for the Political Constitution of the State (CPE), it returned USD 346.7 million to the IMF, equivalent to USD 240.1 million of Special Drawing Rights (SDR), which was irregularly managed by the de facto Government, ”says the BCB.
The Central Bank stressed that the credit conditions a series of tax, financial, monetary and exchange rate impositions, “it fails to comply with the provisions of Articles 158 and 322 of the Political Constitution of the State and other related regulations in force, violating sovereignty and interests economic factors of the country, ”he said.
In the press release, the BCB assures that it coordinated with the Ministry of Economy and Public Finance (MEFP) to take necessary actions against the former officials who facilitated these irregular loans.
“The MEFP stated that due to the irregularities observed in the IMF credit, the latter cannot authorize any payment that the BCB could request or execute to the General Treasury of the Nation (TGN) and suggested taking the necessary actions in order to protect and respect the resources of the State ”, detailed the BCB.
