The increases in positive cases of Covid-19 continue to cause complications in the country’s hospitals, due to the fact that ICU and hospital beds are still at full capacity.
The scene outside the hospitals is increasingly similar to when the health emergency began in Ecuador. People hope to get a space for their affected family member, in many cases, they cannot go to the ICU even if their condition is serious, since there is not enough space.
In Tungurahua there is no availability in the Intensive Care Unit, because its 10 beds are occupied and patients who are in hospital must wait, according to the authorities.
The saturation is also repeated in hospitals in Pastaza and Riobamba, where their ICU beds are full and hospitalization reports low capacity.
For his part, the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zeballos, continues to affirm that in the country there is 39% occupancy in hospitalization and 85% occupy ICU beds, this, according to the official, has not changed since the previous week.
Ecuador reported 224.315 positive cases of coronavirus as of Wednesday, January 13, 2021, while the British strain of the virus is already circulating in the country.
