The United States included the island within days of Donald Trump leaving the White House.
Zhao Lijian, official spokesman for the Chinese government, confirmed that the Asian country opposes the decision of the United States to include Cuba in the countries “sponsors of terrorism.”
The decision to include Cuba in the countries “sponsors of terrorism” was a request of the current president, Donald Trump. This action reactivates the tense situation between the island and the North American power.
On the other hand, China considers this to be a policy of pressure under the guise of terrorism. In addition, the Asian country asked that countries establish new relationships based on equality and mutual respect.
This new sanction for the Central American country implies that there will be sanctions that penalize people and countries that carry out commercial activities with the island. It prohibits exports and defense sales and certain controls are also implemented on dual-use items.
Cuba had ceased to be on the list of countries “sponsors of terrorism” in 2015, in the administration of the president, Barack Obama.
