Workers report criminally to the Ministry of Defense of Ecuador

This Sunday, January 10, 2021, the Union of Workers of the Ministry of Defense filed a criminal complaint against the head of the ministry, Oswaldo Jarrín, for alleged non-compliance with decisions of the competent authority.

Following a complaint by the Union presented to the Ministry of Labor, in 2019, to request union discounts from workers to access certain benefits such as retirement and other rights that had been previously violated, a Conciliation Court of the Ministry of Labor ordered Vase to comply with the order.

After two years, the Minister of Defense, so far, has not complied with this provision, for which he was denounced for the crime of non-compliance with decisions of the competent authority.

About 3.000 workers from the Ministry of Defense would have been affected, according to Melissa Buendía, the union’s coordinator. The objective of the lawsuit, she said, is to set a precedent for respecting the guarantees and rights of workers.
