The WikiLeaks founder will have to remain in the maximum security prison of Belmarsh.
This Wednesday, January 6, 2021, a British judge denied bail for the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, according to the magistrate, the rejection of this request is because the Australian could flee from justice.
Assange asked the British justice for bail, after his extradition to the United States was denied, due to the risk of suicide. The WikiLeaks founder has not known freedom for 8 years, because he had to be held in the Ecuadorian embassy in London until his arrest in 2019.
For its part, the United States government announced that they will continue to seek the extradition of Assange, to bring him before the American justice, who accuses him of 18 charges of espionage and violation of confidential information.
Assange’s defenders continue to ask the US government to “forgive” him, while his opponents claim that the Australian is a potential danger to the West.
On the other hand, this new ruling against Assange determines that the WikiLeaks founder continues to be held in the maximum security prison of Belmarsh. The Australian’s lawyers have commented that they cannot meet with his client and that he is exposed to terrible living conditions, inside this prison.
