Vaccines against the coronavirus will arrive to Ecuador the third week of January

In March, 2 million additional vaccines arrive from pharmaceutical company Pfizer-Biontech.

The third week of this month, the first 50.000 vaccines against Covid-19 from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer-Biontech will arrive in the country, according to the General Secretary for Communication of the Presidency, Caridad Vela. These doses are part of an agreement with this company, which will supply 2 million vaccines to the country.

Vela indicated that the Government is negotiating the purchase of 2 million additional doses with this pharmaceutical company, which would be added to the 2 million that were signed in the first agreement.

“Those 50.000 vaccines are going to be used in people, what we have called the first line of combat against the virus. In March, 2 million additional vaccines arrive from the manufacturer Pfizer. Additionally, another purchase of 2 million more doses of vaccines is being negotiated with the same manufacturer and in parallel to that, between March and June, we will continue to receive the rest.

The Secretary of Communication assured that the country will receive 18 million vaccines, from different pharmaceutical companies, which will be used to immunize 60% of Ecuadorians, 9 million people, since two doses are needed.

To conclude, Vela assured that, for now, the coronavirus mutation found in the United Kingdom in Ecuador has not been detected.
