Labor scams on social networks would have links with criminal gangs from abroad

Criminals deceive people by telling them that they were selected for a vacancy in a company and would ask them for a deposit between USD 100 and 500 for prior medical check-ups.

Job offer scams have become a constant in recent months in the country. The national police and the authorities are investigating who would be behind these offers that take over social networks.

The positions that are mostly offered are those of secretaries, accountants, security guards, drivers, sales personnel or “call center”. These proposals do not usually say which company is interested and only leave a telephone number. These fraudulent practices increased during the pandemic, according to experts.

According to the first reports from the authorities, the victims of these scams send their resumes to the emails or telephones provided by the scammers. Subsequently, users receive a call where they are interviewed “real”

After several days of the interview, the scammers call people and tell them that they were selected for the position and ask that they have a series of medical checkups, including a test for Covid-19 and they must deposit to cover these expenses.

The National Police revealed that the scammers ask for amounts between USD 100 and 500, to “cover” medical expenses. The authorities confirmed that the scammers have links with criminal gangs in Colombia and Venezuela, because the money that is obtained fraudulently in the country is sent to these nations.
