Colombian Defense Minister dies from Covid-19

Carlos Holmes Trujillo was one of the most respected figures in the government of Iván Duque.

The Colombian Minister of Defense, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, died this Tuesday, January 26, 2021, due to Covid-19.

Trujillo had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital Militar de Bogotá since January 14. A viral pneumonia complicated the situation of the politician, who until the last moments was connected to a respirator.

On his side, the president of Colombia, Iván Duque, lamented the death of Minister Trujillo, who was also his chancellor in the first 15 days of his government.

“Colombians, with deep pain and sadness I have received the news of the death of our Defense Minister, Carlos Holmes Trujillo,” commented the president.

Carlos Holmes Trujillo was one of the most prominent politicians in the Duque government. Additionally, the Minister of Defense became the first senior official to die in Latin America from Covid-19
