Andrés Arauz and Carlos Rabascall, binomial of the Union for Hope (UNES), warned that “there is a coup against democracy underway” because there would be a risk or a campaign would start to postpone the February 2021 elections.
After the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) returned the challenge filed against the UNES binomial to the National Electoral Council (CNE), they hope that this body will resolve their case within the next 48 hours.
Arauz said that there have been several years of political persecution against the progressive forces. “Explicit threats, such as that of Juan Sebastián Roldán, who said that any candidate from Correísmo the justice would set eyes on him,” he warned.
He pointed out that, among the elements by which they warn a possible postponement of the electoral calendar, are the various pronouncements, especially from the CNE authorities themselves. “There have been pronouncements from the president of the CNE herself that, if these impediments against the binomial continue, the electoral calendar would have to be deferred,” said Arauz.
The candidate also mentioned that they have information “that certain members of the CNE put together a media agenda to justify the suspension of the planned electoral calendar and put together a new one.”
