Nigeria: Massacre in Borno leaves 110 dead

The Nigerian government is preparing responses to help eradicate “all forms of insurgency and insecurity” in the country.

The Nigerian government confirmed that there are 110 deaths in the attack on workers in a rice plantation near the town of Kwashebe, in Borno state in northeast Nigeria. Those responsible for these events would be the radical group Boko Haram.

This attack would have occurred while the men were harvesting, for which they were surprised by the murderers, who were transporting themselves on motorcycles. That day the country held elections to elect local councils. after 13 years.

Edward Kallon, humanitarian coordinator for the United Nations (UN), commented that some women were also kidnapped.

“I am outraged and horrified by the monstrous attack on civilians by illegal armed groups in villages near the Borno state capital, Maidugur,” Kallon said.

For his part, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari described the Boko Haram attack as “foolish, barbaric, hideous and cowardly.” Therefore, the government will be preparing responses to eradicate “all forms of insurgency and insecurity” throughout the country.

Additionally, the Nigerian state will equip the armed forces with more weapons, in order to “carry out the war against terrorism.” There is also an agreement between the countries to prevent “there is a hiding place for terrorists.”
