Union leaders file complaint against Ecuadorian minister for questioning of contracts

Union and Popular Unity leaders arrived at the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to file a complaint against the Minister of Telecommunications, Andrés Michelena, for questioning the contracts of companies in which he was related.

“Those who from public functions take advantage of their influence to benefit or third parties. That is the case of Andrés Michelena », assured Geovanni Atarihuana, leader of Unidad Popular.

He said that Michelena would have benefited from her position in the Government so that the companies in which she worked have benefited.

“We are going to ask the prosecutor Diana Salazar to take these complaints into account in the investigation,” he said.

The Digital Media La Posta published an investigation into alleged irregularities that would return to the minister.

They revealed that the official had benefited from a contract for USD 334.564 to the company Disruption Ecuapublicitaria S.A., just two months after his dependency relationship with the company ended.

The Minister of Telecommunications has already faced a complaint for allegedly having benefited with contracts for USD 7’728.641 million to the company Véritas DDB, in which he worked as manager. It is also being investigated whether he held positions simultaneously while working as a civil servant.

Two weeks ago, the Prosecutor’s Office opened a preliminary investigation for the alleged crime of embezzlement against the minister
