Chile’s Public Ministry and the Council of Prosecutors demonstrated against a bill that proposed a pardon for all protesters who were arrested during the “Social Outbreak” in past protests.
Several demonstrations took place in recent weeks in Chile, where citizens asked the government to release the “political prisoners” from past demonstrations. However, the president, Sebastián Piñera, publicly accepted that he will not give this benefit to inmates.
“The persons subjected to the action of the Courts of Justice of Chile are not in this condition because of their thoughts or opinions, but because of acts that constitute a crime,” dictates a statement from the Public Ministry.
The proposal for a presidential pardon for the protesters is supported by some opposition parliamentarians, however, the passage for it seems impossible, because several government authorities believe that giving way to this pardon would be a “very serious signal for coexistence Social”.
